Kia Ora my name is Mathew Kenny and I am one of two team Leaders employed at Wellington City Council Parking Services.

I help to run the day to day on street operations for parking officer staff- my day is filled with answering enquires, handling complaints, attending meetings, Responding to serious incidents, looking at safety improvements across the unit, dealing with and maintain relationships with other external and internal customers.

My Journey in regulatory and compliance started in 2003 in Wellington when I was employed by Parkwise an external company who were contracted to Wellington City Council. I was hired as a parking officer where I started to clock up the miles pounding Wellington Streets, I soon became one of the most experienced officers in Wellington where I also held the role of Team Leader and On Road Trainer.

Over my time with Parkwise I think I had heard every excuse under the sun, and quickly developed a reputation for being cool calm and a hardworking officer.

During my time i developed a love of training staff and seeing their development grow through time in the role I also have a real passion for Health and safety in the role .

In 2011 I was offered an opportunity to work in Melbourne Australia for the Stonnigton City Council as a parking officer. Later in 2014 I moved to Brisbane City Council for a period of 3 years working in Parking. The experience I gained in working at these different operations has proven very valuable in my duties as a Team Leader for Wellington City Council Parking.

I have many ideas that I would like to share with the NZPA through the committee. I Know I have a lot to offer and I look forward to collaborating with fellow NZPA members and other councils   sharing some of my ideas to improve parking and the general health and safety for officers across New Zealand .
